This axiom defines the reason why, according to Scientology, humanity is in pursuit of becoming "clear". Hubbard argues that humanity has a chance to becoming immortal by continuing to pursue becoming "clear" and becoming happier in its pursuit of pleasure. He says that humanity is "programmed" from the begining to pursue pleasure and avoid pain, this is what Hubbard says survival is pursuing pleasure to avoid pain. The survival dynamic is all 3 of the dynamics that Hubbard outlines. He says that humanity survives through the use of 3 dynamics. The first is that humanity is motivated to survive based on the group. Basically that humanity is motivated to survive based on the continuing well being of the people he surrounds himself with. The second is that humanity is motivated to survive based on sex. This is that humanity survives based on pursuit of sex and the continuation of the species. The third is that humanity survives for the sake of humanity of a whole. If these dynamics can overcome the suppressor then humanity can live forever. But when the suppressor overwhelms the the dynamics the person dies. Our ever increasing life expectancies are illustrated by the lines for our children and their children. The zones represent levels of happiness, zone 1 is Fear, zone 2 is antagonism, and zone 3 is conservatism, and zone 4 is complete enthusiasm. As we approach zone 4 as shown by the graph our chance of survival and ultimate pleasure increase dramatically.
